On match days of Euro-2012 in host cities a total of 16,000 Ukrainian policemen will work on organizing security. On non-match days the number will be reduced to 9,000. This was stated during the International Police Conference "Security at UEFA Euro-2012" by the first deputy head of the Department of Public Safety of the Ministry of Ukraine, Serhiy Pohotov.

He said that a further 4,000 employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs from the regions will enlisted as well as about 7,000 servicemen of internal troops.

"This number of law-enforcers may, at first glance, may seem large, but let it not scare you. The vast majority of troops will remain in reserve in the immediate vicinity of the football matches so as, if necessary, to promptly respond and provide assistance to their colleagues. The police will work in three shifts and the announced figures are the number of police officers who will work during the period of 24 hours. We believe that it is better to have at hand a sufficient number in reserve so as to enlist them in sorting out possible problems, rather than have a situation where we might be short of people," Mr. Pohotov said.
